It is with great pleasure that we are inviting you to attend the 21st SPOI Pneumology and Pneumopediatrics Congress on Reunion Island.
The SPOI will be celebrating its 27th anniversary in your company. Created in 1996 by a small group of 4 Reunion Island pulmonologists at that time: Dr Zaidou, Dr Tanguy, Dr Raheolina and Dr Paratian. From then on, at each of its annual congresses, the SPOI has brought together pulmonologists from various countries in the Indian Ocean, both English- and French-trained, from far-flung and varied backgrounds. These international meetings were important, enabling pulmonologists from the IO region to exchange experiences and meet many of the world’s leading experts in pulmonology. The SPOI also enabled the emergence of other learned societies in the region.
As a result, the SPOI has gained international status. We defend the « pulmonology culture adapted to the Indian Ocean region », and at each congress our main aim has always been to present programs of the highest scientific level, in the presence of eminent world-renowned speakers, with the sole aim of ensuring the best training for our doctors in the region, for the benefit of all our patients.
In this spirit, we hope that the 2023 program will generate a great deal of enthusiasm, interactivity and debate. We are very honoured by the presence of all our prestigious speakers from around the world, and thank them for accepting our invitation. Our sincere thanks also go to our invaluable sponsors, the team at the Saint Alexis Hotel, Austral Voyage, the Scientific Committee and the SPOI Steering Committee.
The Indian Ocean region is known for its multiculturalism and hospitality, its dynamism and inventiveness. We hope that you will take advantage of Congress 2023 to reconnect with your colleagues, in order to drive forward the development of our discipline. Because beyond the annual congress, other important projects have been depicted.
